Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is a research university specializing in engineering science & technology. Our education, research and knowledge valorization contribute to:
• science for society: solving the major societal issues and boosting prosperity and welfare by focusing on the Strategic Areas of Energy, Health and Smart Mobility
• science for industry: the development of technological innovation in cooperation with industry
• science for science: progress in engineering sciences through excellence in key research cores and innovation in education
The Smart Logistics Lab is located in the School of Industrial Engineering embedded in the OPAC (Operations, Planning, Accounting and Control) group. With its 40+ research staff, OPAC is one of the largest European research groups in the field of Logistics. Van Woensel is full professor in Freight Transport and Logistics, and heads the Smart Logistics Lab.
Around 4 faculty members, 3 PostDocs, 6 PhD students and 10-15 Graduate and Undergraduate students are involved in Smart Logistics Lab projects (R&D, demonstration and in-company). We have strong ties with the Operations and Services (TOpS) Research Laboratory directed by Lei Zhao from the Tsinghua University (China). The Lab has ongoing research contacts with various TU/e based researchers, many researchers tied to CIRRELT (Canada), Tolga Bektas from the University of Southampton (UK) and many more via the various (inter)national research projects. The Lab is also member of the Montreal-based centre of excellence CLIC, the City Logistics Innovation Centre for People and Goods. This CLIC consortium is a strong network on which to build collaborations to rise to the challenges of City Logistic and sustainable urban mobility for people and freight.
prof.dr. Tom Van Woensel is Full Professor of Freight Transport and Logistics in the OPAC group of the dept. of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences at TU/e.
dr. Dmitry Krushinsky is a PostDoc in the OPAC group of the dept. of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences at TU/e.
The major role of TU/e is to coordinate the activities in its region (NL) – perform awareness raising activities towards companies, identify their needs (and translate them into specifications for the ICT-based demonstrator), disseminate the results of the project (release the ICT-based demonstrator to the companies, present its possibilities, etc.). Another task of TU/e is to exchange experience with other partners by providing feedback on the initiatives of other partners and proposing own specifications/solutions to be implemented in the ICT-based demonstrator.
TU/e is involved in the following actions:
WP2A5: setting up a transnational working group dedicated to WP2;
WP2A6: awareness-raising activities towards companies;
WP2A8: needs identification;
WP3A9: setting up a transnational working group dedicated to WP3;
WP3A10: specifications of the ICT-based demonstrator – communication architecture of EPC-Network tool;
WP3A11: setting up an ICT-based demonstrator;
WP4A12: setting up a transnational working group dedicated to WP4;
WP4A13: release of the demonstrator to the companies.
